Etiology of Community - Acquired Pneumonia Requiring Hospitalization in Japan
LPS could induce nuclear translocation of NF-kB in E1Atransfected cells alone.7 In E1A-transformed airway cells, the NF-kB transcription factor is involved in the IL-8 gene and ICAM-1 gene expression after LPS stimulation. In addition, Metcalf8 reported that adenovirus E1A 13S gene product upregulates TNF-a gene. On the other hand, cigarette smokers have increased numbers of neutrophils present...
متن کاملMolecular detection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in adults with community-acquired pneumonia requiring hospitalization.
Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection was diagnosed in 18 (12.5%) of 144 adults hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia. The infection was demonstrated by PCR in 15 patients and by serology, using two methods, in 10 patients. The mean age of the 8 patients with positive M. pneumoniae PCR and negative serology was significantly higher than that of the 10 patients with positive serology.

متن کاملUtility of blood cultures in community-acquired pneumonia requiring hospitalization: influence of antibiotic treatment before admission.
It has been previously shown that antibiotics given before hospitalization significantly reduce the proportion of positive blood cultures in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The aim of this prospective study was to compare the utility and cost-benefits of blood cultures in patients, hospitalized for moderate CAP, who had or had not received antibiotic therapy prior to admission. During 1 yea...
